Modern art and abstraction explained as you learn about the artist who sought for art to be seen as 'art' instead of merely pictorial story telling... He developed a distinctive artistic language that transformed the way people thought about color, emotion and painting.  

He made seemingly simple compositions of luminous fields of color that elicit and compel an experience of the emotional power of color, light, scale and space.  Looking at a Rothko painting immerses you in a breathing world of depth and feeling and it was his intention for the viewer to connect to his work in this meaningful way.
